Eight Recent OU Grads Awarded Fulbright Grants for 2018-2019
The College of International Studies is proud to announce that eight recent University of Oklahoma graduates have been awarded Fulbright grants for the 2018-2019 academic year! Established in 1946 and funded through the US State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program is one of the country’s most prestigious grants funding study, research and teaching abroad. The stated goal of the program is “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries,” by promoting cultural exchange and the study of international issues.
“Fulbright grants are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, achievement and leadership potential,” explains Bushra Asif, the Fulbright program advisor here at OU. “These eight grants are a testament to our outstanding student body and the university.”
This year’s awardees graduated from OU with a wide range of majors. Some plan to teach English abroad, while others will spend the year conducting research or completing internships. In addition to those profiled below, six other OU grads were named as alternates, meaning they may be offered an award if funding becomes available. The alternates are Luke Bartz, Erin Donnelly, Erik Flom, Dominic Granello, Nour Kayali and Jeffrey Terry.
“We are very proud of our students and their talent and hard work, which enabled them to receive these prestigious grants,” says Asif. “We wish these students all the success in their future academic journey.”
